Every Waking Moment
by Chris Fabry
This book tells the story of a woman named Treha who works as a custodian at an assisted-living facility. But really Treha is their secret weapon. She has an incredible gift of reaching the elderly that were thought to be "lost" through touching them physically and emotionally.
But this book also has a side story of a documentary team that is telling people's stories through video. In fact the ever uncover important aspects of Treha's life!
The chapters alternate between Treha's current day story and the excerpts from videos the documentary team has shot. Personally I don't enjoy when books flip back and forth that much but Chris Fabry did do a good job of tying the two stories together rather flawlessly.
This book is a good reminder that EVERYONE has a purpose. Whether the person has the world's highest IQ, can barely hold down a job, or is elderly and can't even recognize their own family members. Throughout this story it is evident that to most people Treha is just a nobody who is only good for mopping floors but thankfully her boss at the assisted-living facility knows that Treha is still important and longs to help her get the most out of life. Meanwhile thankfully even though many people had written off their elderly family members, Treha realizes that they are still inside of their failing bodies and minds and reaches out to them to help them feel valued and loved.
If you know anyone that has ever been taken for granted or undervalued I think you will love this book.
